Telephone Advice Service
Doctors or other health professionals can ring the CDDHV and speak to a clinician to discuss concerns about the health or welfare of a person with developmental disability.
Outcomes can be:
- The advice given enables the doctor/ health care professional to proceed to manage the problem;
- The CDDHV doctor available takes details of the concerns and discusses the issues with a senior colleague to clarify the advice that should be given and gets back to the caller;
- Referral to a more appropriate health-care provider is advised;
- Referral for assessment at the CDDHV is initiated.
The offer to provide on-going support by telephone is often included in the report CDDHV clinicians sent to referring doctors after a consultation, to support them in their implementation of the proposed management plan.
